Jose Alexander III
Playmaker Award
2025

For athletes whose strength extends beyond the field. This award celebrates sports figures, from players to coaches, who embody excellence, visibility, and pride, challenging norms and breaking barriers for Black LGBTQ+ representation in sports.
Born and raised in New Orleans, I learned early the power of community. Playing basketball and FourSquare with neighborhood friends sparked my love for sports. After moving from Bard College to Baltimore, I craved that same connection—until I found Stonewall. There, I discovered a passion: using sports to build community for those who haven’t always felt welcome. As Volleyball Director, I’m grateful for the chance to create inclusive spaces that bring people together beyond labels. My calling is bigger than volleyball—it’s about building belonging, celebrating identity, and empowering others through the joy of play and the strength of community.
WHAT COMMUNITY HAD TO SAY:
"Jose is the Volleyball director of Stonewall Sports. Not only is he on the leadership team, but he is also an active player who helped secure a great volleyball venue and grow the sport into one of the top sports at Stonewall Baltimore."
