SANKOFA EXCHANGE 2025
Knowledge kept alive. Power passed on.
The Sankofa Exchange is a cultural and educational gathering grounded in the ancestral call to go back and get it. It’s a space to retrieve the tools, truths, and teachings of our past to better navigate the present and reshape our future together. We draw inspiration from the past BLAQ Equity event, Sankofa: Community Conversations, which last took place in 2014.
Born from the belief that our survival and brilliance are generational, this BLAQ Pride Month-long offering centers Black LGBTQIA+ thinkers, creatives, organizers, and everyday people who carry lived knowledge worth passing forward. Through workshops, dialogues, and community offerings, we gather not just to talk but to reflect on where we’ve been, share what we’ve learned, and shape what's next.
Our knowledge has never lived only in books. It’s been tucked inside hair braids, behind handkerchief codes, cultivated native gardens, and spoken in community circles. This call is for those who carry knowledge and are ready to share it.
We welcome submissions across a wide range of formats and topics, including:
-
Interactive workshops
-
Storytelling or oral history sessions
-
Panels or moderated discussions
-
Healing or movement-based practices
-
Skillshares or trainings
-
Performative or visual explorations of Black queer history and culture
We especially encourage submissions from Black trans folks, youth, elders, and those often left out of traditional “expert” spaces.
Learning from what was and is.
Building what will be.
